Kick-Off Social

E-Week will be kicking off with a social, hosted by lovely ladies of SWE-the Society of Women Engineers! Students will have the chance to relax after a stressful week and enjoy a night with their fellow Engineers.

 

Engineering Leadership Forum

Engineering Leadership Forum (ELF) is an opportunity for students to join together for a day of excitement and leadership training. We will be hearing from industry speakers, career experts, and other leaders with a vast knowledge of what is needed to become a leader in today's workforce. Join us for fun, food, and a day filled with activities to help you grow personally both at UF and into the future. Check the registration tab for registration deadlines.

 

Field Day

Field Day provides an opportunity for engineering societies to form teams and participate in a variety of outdoor games. Games include tug-0-war, dodge ball, ultimate Frisbee, marshmallow challenge and capture the flag. This event will feature a friendly and competitive atmosphere for engineering students to have fun and escape the stresses of challenging classes. Free food will be available refuel players. Teams can earn points towards the E-Week Cup. Winning teams in the planned activities will also receive trophies!

 

Engineering Bowl

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Rion Ballroom
Engineering Bowl is a fun and competitive/exciting way for engineering societies to showcase their knowledge of engineering basics and knowledge about the College of Engineering at the University of Florida. Four finalist societies or student groups (each finalist group consisting of four team members) will be selected through a preliminary round to move onto a Jeopardy-style competition. The winners of this final round will have the opportunity to compete against a faculty team. Questions will range from the sciences, mathematics, various engineering subjects, to random facts about Weil Hall. Come support your society or just come to test yourself on some engineering fundamentals!

The preliminary round will be an individual round of testing on a variety of subjects. The scores will be complied to select the top four scoring groups.

 

Engineering & Science Fair

Tuesday, February 22, 2011 and Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Reitz Union Grand Ballroom
All students, faculty, staff and members of the university community are invited to the 66th annual Engineering Fair. The event will host representatives from engineering societies, research centers, and industry representatives presenting hands-on exhibits which highlight various science and engineering fields. All University of Florida, Santa Fe and high school students are encouraged to attend Tuesday. All middle school and elementary school students are encouraged to attend Wednesday. Students will also have the opportunity to join in on tours of the College.

 

Reception

The Reception will be held on the night of the first day of E-Fair to recognize the contributors of EWeek and to offer a formal environment for students to interact with fellow students, industry and faculty members. Attendees will include representatives from different participating societies, and industry and faculty members that contributed to participated in EWeek.

 

Extravaganza

Extravaganza is a day of fun and excitement for all engineering students. The fun will feature the gladiator joust, mechanical shark (not bull), shooting star (inflatable basketball court), and Q. B. Blitz. Free food will be available for participating students. This will be opportunity for students to stop by during breaks in between classes and socialize with fellow engineering students.

 

Dr. Grasso: “Beyond Technology: The Future of Engineering”

Dr. Dom Grasso, the Vice President of Research and Education at the University of Vermont will be discussing engineering education, “holistic engineering,” and the changes the current engineering educational institutions  must undergo to successfully prepare students for the demands of our future society.

 

Wii Tournament/Student Mixer

Hosted by Freshmen Leadership Engineering Group, the Wii Tournament/Student Mixer will offer students an opportunity to relax and socialize with fellow students from different disciplines while enjoying a few other games. The winner of the Wii Tournament will win the Wii! Food will also be available for the attendees.

 

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers:
Goals for Tomorrow Soccer Tournament

The Goals for Tomorrow Soccer tournament is a self-created scholarship fundraising event that represents the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers' and its mission. All proceeds go toward the Goals for Tomorrow Scholarship recipients, three engineering freshmen. Teams from across the state come to participate in this event. It is a very competitive and fun tournament! There will be two co-ed leagues, recreational and competitive; along with many other activities. Registration is $50 per team (5-7 players; no gender ratio required).

Closing Ceremony and State of the College Address

Dean Lindner will be presenting a State of the College Address and BEC will be presenting an update on the state of our student organizations. Along with this, awards of EWeek will be presented to the winners of the EWeek cup, EBowl, EFair and EWeek Field day.
