Engineering Society Night
Engineering Society Night is held annually in order to encourage student involvement in the College of Engineering. BEC member societies are invited to set up interactive displays for an evening in the Reitz Union Rion Ballroom. All engineering students are invited to attend to learn more about the societies that are present. Students who attend have the opportunity to win door prizes throughout the night, and all societies present have the potential to win monetary prizes for their efforts in various categories, including Most Outgoing, Most Informative, and Best Display. The inaugural Engineering Society Night was held September 24, 2007, and was sponsored by Lockheed Martin.
College of Engineering Homecoming Float
BEC annually creates the float representing the College of Engineering in the University of Florida Homecoming Parade. Engineering students work for several weeks to prepare the float, which is typically planned around the theme of the Homecoming Parade.
Holiday Cheer
Every December, BEC partners with the Alachua County Department of Children and Families to plan a day filled with holiday fun for underprivileged children in the Gainesville area. BEC holds fundraisers throughout the fall semester in order to provide food, entertainment, and holiday gifts for the children that attend. The event includes a visit from the Gainesville Fire Department, Albert the Alligator, and Santa Claus.
Engineers Week
Engineers Week is comprised of a series of university-wide events which occur during the third week in February of every year. A highlight of Engineers Week is the annual Engineering and Science Fair, during which student societies and local and on-campus research facilities prepare interactive displays for K-12 students. This event is open to all university students and the surrounding community, and spans two days in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom. Some BEC member societies sponsor Engineers Week events, including the Kickoff Social, which is hosted by the Society of Women Engineers at a local nightclub, the Goals for Tomorrow Soccer Tournament, held by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the Meet the Deans Barbeque, hosted by the Benton Engineering Council, and the Florida Engineering Society Golf Tournament. Other events held throughout the week for College of Engineering students include the Engineering Leadership Forum, Engineering Bowl, Engineering Extravaganza, and a kickball tournament.
Spring Service
Spring Service is held annually with the goal of uniting the College of Engineering toward accomplishing a service project to benefit the Gainesville community.
